Newton's Constant Isn't Constant

چکیده
According to Newton’s law of gravity, two masses interact with each other via a central force which can be derived from the potential VN (r) = −Gm1m2/r where G is a universal constant known as Newton’s constant. Likewise, according to Coulomb’s law, two electrically charged particles with charges n1e and n2e interact via the central potential VCb (r) = αn1n2/r where e is the elementary charge and where α ≡ e/4π is nowadays referred to as the fine structure constant. Thus, in classical physics, the gravitational and the electrostatic interactions are described by exactly the same 1/r-law, and their respective coupling strengths are determined by the two universal constants G and α which enter the equations in an analogous fashion.

Constant modulus performance search using Newton's method
This paper uses Newton’s method to seek the global minimum of the constant modulus performance measure. Unlike the common practice of using the constant modulus adaptive algorithm, the new approach does not suffer from local minima. The paper also discusses some implementation issues of the new algorithm.
متن کاملOn the Anomalous Oscillation of Newton's Gravitational Constant
Periodic oscillations are observed in Newton's gravitational constant G that are contemporaneous with length of day data obtained from the International Earth Rotation and Reference System (IERRS). Preliminary research has determined that the oscillatory period of G is ≈ 5.9 years (5.899 ± 0.062 years). In this paper, the oscillations are shown to be concomitant with the Earth's distance from t...
متن کاملVerified Quadrature in Determining Newton's Constant of Gravitation
This paper describes the use of interval arithmetic to bound errors in an experiment for determining Newton's constant of gravitation. Using veri ed Gaussian quadrature we were able to assess the numerical errors as well as the e ect of several tolerances in the physical experiment.

A renormalization group (RG) improvement of the Einstein-Hilbert action is performed which promotes Newton's constant and the cosmological constant to scalar functions on spacetime. They arise from solutions of an exact RG equation by means of a " cutoff identification " which associates RG scales to the points of spacetime. The resulting modified Einstein equations for spherically symmetric, s...
متن کاملA MODIFIED THEORY OF NEWTONIAN MECHANICS
A specific form of the inertial law is presented by which we can gain a deeper insight into the essence of mass and inertia. In this modified theory, there is no need to keep the concept of absolute space and Newton's third law as principles, By introducing a convenient form for gravitational law the coupling constant G becomes a function of inertial parameters of the universe
